OKEMOS - Okemos High School theatre performed Thorton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-Winning play, Our Town, for a special four show run this past weekend.
"Our Town" is a simple, yet intense play that follows two families during twelve years of life changes in the fictional small town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire.
The play uses metatheatrical devices, meaning the play sharpens our awareness of the unlikeness of life to dramatic art. It marks the frames and boundries that conventional dramatic realism would hide.
Minimal props let the audience engulf themselves in the acting and music, strengthening the overall performance for the audience.
“It’s just, it’s a wonderful show," cast member Braden Cooley said. "Don’t let the simplicity of it fool you. As simple as it is, again, it’s beautiful.”
The 2 hour performance had the audience comletely in its grasp.
