Tips To Stay Safe With Winter Weather Forecast

LANSING - The National Weather Service of Grand Rapids has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 8 AM on November 1st. Total accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected with winds gusting as high as 50 mph in portions of central, south central and southwest Michigan.

Strong winds this evening may cause scattered power outages. Snow this evening may affect travel into Friday morning. Coastal flooding and beach erosion is expected.

Consumers Energy is reminding trick or treaters, their parents and others out this Halloween to be especially aware of possible downed wires and other safety hazards.

Consumers Energy also reminds the public to stay at least 25 feet away from a downed wire and anything that is touching and to call 9-1-1 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050. With rough weather expected, our crews are ready to respond quickly, make situations safe and restore power.

In addition to being aware of possible downed wires, the public is reminded, if they lose power, to never use a generator in an attached garage, basement, enclosed patio or near any air intakes. Doing so could cause a generator to produce hazardous levels of carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless and deadly gas.

Drivers are encouraged to allow for extra travel time tonight and to be prepared for slippery roads during their evening commute. Power outages can be expected with strong winds and sticky snow in trees, and look out for possible branches on roadways. Snow is possible on Saturday and early next week.
