Ingham County Parks Trails and Parks Millage Grants Awarded, Work to Begin Soon

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - When the warm weather starts to roll around, residents like to take advantage of the many parks and trials throughout Ingham County.

And now those parks and trails are getting much needed upgrades.

Back in March, the Ingham County Board of Commissioners approved to award 6 local municipalities funds for park and trail improvement.

The money comes from the Ingham County Trails and Parks Millage approved by voters in 2014 which generates approximately $3.4 million in revenue annually.

Melissa Buzzard is the Trails and Parks Millage Coordinator for Ingham County Parks overseeing all of the projects. She says she is very excited to get started on all of the updates and see an improvement in various areas around the township and beyond.

"The City of Lansing will be getting more accessible kayak launches throughout the different access points on the Grand River," Buzzard said. "Meridian Township will be adding a boardwalk, which will really help with pedestrian safety in the area. Delhi Township's going to start an exciting planning project for a trail that will be going from Holt to Mason. There's just various other ones, Stockbridge is going to be connecting to the Iron Belle Trail, which is a regional and state trail."

The projects are currently going through the engineering and planning process. You can expect to see a lot of the projects breakground this spring.
