MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - During the Meridian Township Park Commission meeting on Tuesday, March 13, different grant submissions were discussed among the Commission. These grants are a way to get funds to improve the experiences in the Meridian Township Parks.

There was a proposal to improve Towner Road Park which will have an accessible playground area for children but also a quiet space. Also a pollinator and songbird plantings to attract wildlife for nature observation are to be added. This is a $287,000 project.

There was also another proposal to improve Ottawa Hills Neighborhood Park. This proposed project would replace the older playground structure with a newer model. The new play structure would serve a variety of different age groups as well as being accessible to accommodate children with disabilities. Other added features would include grills, tables and benches.

LuAnn Maisner, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department at Meridian Township said, "We are applying to the Michigan Recreation Passport Program. The project is $100,000 and it is a 25% local match."

Maisner said $75,000 would come from the grant and $25,000 from the park millage.

The Commission did make a motion to accept the Michigan Recreation Passport Grant for the park.
