MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Registration is open for The 22nd Annual Citizens’ Academy hosted by the Meridian Township Police Department.
This year, the academy will take place on Thursday evenings beginning in September and running through November.
“It’s just another way for people to get to know us, for us to maybe help educate them about why we are doing what we’re doing,” said Meridian Township Police Department Sergeant, Andrew McCready. “We really want to continue to form relationships with folks so that they know that we’re doing everything we can to make sure their community is safe and a enjoyable place to live.”
Each class will cover around 3 topics. Some examples of topics that will be covered include arrest law and use of force, narcotics, K9 unit, community policing and firearms training simulation.
“Majority of the instructors are members of our department, we want our community to get to meet them and spend as much time with them as they can,” said Sergeant McCready.
The citizens’ academy is free to all adults living or working in Meridian Township. For more information or to enroll in the citizens academy, people can email Sergeant McCready at mccready@meridian.mi.us.
