Haslett-Okemos Kiwanis Club Presents $25,000 Check Towards New Farmers' Market

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Parks and Recreation Department began a $50,000 Patronicity Crowdfunding Campaign in December 2018 for Marketplace on the Green Project.

The proposed new project will transform the Farmers’ Market into a social and economic centerpiece in Meridian Township, providing community space for the Farmers’ Market, craft fairs, Township-wide events, adult and youth sports, live music and more.

If funding for the Marketplace on the Green Project reaches the $50,000 goal by February 8th, a matching grant through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Public Spaces Community Places Program will be awarded to the Township.

At the Township Board Joint Meeting on January 15th, the Haslett-Okemos Kiwanis Club presented LuAnn Maisner, Director of Parks & Recreation, a $25,000 check towards the fundraising goal.

“I’m here to present a check to parks and recreation for the amount of $25,000, which represents one third of our commitment to the pavilion,” said William Gohier, Membership Director for the Haslett-Okemos Kiwanis Club.

“This $25,000 donation from the Haslett-Okemos Kiwanis Club is the first installment of a three year $75,000 commitment to this project,” stated Maisner in a press release sent on January 16th.

With that donation, more than $30,000 has been raised towards the Park Commissions $50,000 goal, and their fundraising campaign will continue through February 8th.
