Kansas Street Sewage Project Set To
Begin By End Of Month

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Three local streets are getting new septic systems as part of the Kansas Street Sanitary Sewage Project.

The project is being funded by the Special Assessment District, which was approved by the Meridian Township Board.

Chief Engineer of Meridian Township, Younes Ishraidi, said he anticipates groundwork will begin as soon as the end of this month with a end goal of April.

He said it's important for these new septic systems to be installed as soon as possible, especially on Kansas Street, as residents who live there currently do not have any access to a safe septic system.

"As I mentioned earlier, as far as Kansas Street is concerned, we have failing septic fields and those are essentially a public safety and public health hazard," Ishraidi said.

The Kansas Street portion alone is estimated to cost $19,000 while the total for all three street systems is estimated to cost $177,000.
