Earth Day Celebrations at Harris Nature Center

Earth Day Celebrations at Harris Nature Center

OKEMOS, MI - The Meridian Conservation Corps (MCC) hosted two Earth Day programs on Saturday, April 22 at the Harris Nature Center.

The first event went from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm, where everyone in attendance came to pull invasive plants, followed by a pizza lunch, and the second half of the event went from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The second group went around trails and pathways to sow native seeds, as well as learned about the different types of seeds and plants.

Emma Campbell, Land Stewardship Coordinator, has been hosting Earth Day at Harris Nature Center since she was first employed at Meridian Township, “With the MCC, everyday is Earth Day. It’s a great way to celebrate our home and natural communities, and that’s what we need as a community putting forth this effort. We still have people who really want to come out and be in nature today and make that connection, and of course do something helpful for planet Earth.”

The full recap video can be found below. For more information on future events, please contact Land Stewardship Coordinator Emma Campbell at ecampbell@meridian.mi.us or 517.853.4614.
