Community Resource Night at Haslett Library

Community Resource Night at Haslett Library

HASLETT - On April 13, the Haslett Community Library hosted a community night event featuring a variety of organizations to involve local community members and recruit volunteers.

The event lasted around 2 hours, starting at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, and featured over 20 organizations from around Okemos, Haslett, and East Lansing areas to set up venues for community members to explore and learn about different opportunities and connect with staff members.

Thomas Moore, who is the Head Librarian for the Haslett branch Capital District Area Libraries (CADL), said, "It's really hard to find out about your community sometimes, you live in a place, and you don't know about the resources that are there and available for."

Moore also said, "One of the things after COVID that we thought was important is the idea of getting back out and connecting with people in the community, so Betsy Hall, librarian in the Okemos branch, and Amber Clark from Meridian Township, sat down and came up with an idea to make these connections easier for people."

Organizations that are willing to be featured in a community resource group in the future must contact their local CADL branch to be a part of upcoming local events.

This summer, Haslett Library is looking forward to hosting its annual summer reading challenge program following the pandemic, which will be carried out in June for younger children and high school students.
