MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, MI - On August 1st, Meridian Township held its annual fishing derby at the Meridian Historical Village pond. Inviting families and friends to come out and enjoy one of Michigan's top outdoor activities, fishing.
Meridian Township's Land Stewardship Coordinator, Emma Campbell, had this to say about the event.
“The fishing derby is a great event because whether you are a veteran fisherman or you're just starting, it is just a great way to get out, and to get into one of our local parks. We have really cool aquatic organisms here for kids and adults who would like to check it out, so just getting out in nature learning the stewardship of nature and having a great time."
Participants from the event were able to enjoy activities such as learning to cast, fun with macro-invertebrates (snails, worms, crayfish, clams, etc.), outdoor games, and of course classic fishing.
