Walking at Night in the Moonlight

Walking at Night in the Moonlight

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Are you looking for a way to relax? Go and enjoy the great outdoors at Harris Nature Center. This past Friday was their second “Howling at the Moon” guided night walk through the woods. Residents of Meridian Township came out to enjoy the nice weather while having their dogs tag alongside them. Everyone, including the dogs, got some good exercise while enjoying the beautiful view of the moon.

“Just looking for something to do that was inexpensive and fun for the family and for the dogs,” expressed an attendee from the event.

It may have rained earlier that day, but it did not stop anyone from having a fun Friday night, “Other than the mosquitoes, it was great,” added the same attendee.

The assistant park naturalist at Harris Nature Center, Lauren Colby, led the event.

“We do a guided walk and we go about two to three miles in. It kind of just depends on how everyone is feeling. Anyone is open to ask me any questions. It’s a good time. Everyone brings their dogs and we tire the pups out.”

Colby went on to explain how the walk in the woods went that night.

“We saw a lot of toads. There were a bunch of mosquitoes but it was a good night. The rain wasn’t too bad and we all just got to enjoy a nice walk.”

As the night went on, the moon not only appeared to be full but was also bright orange too. It could not have been a better night to go out for a late night walk. Although, before you decide to go out for a walk late at night, be sure to pack a flashlight and some bug spray.

The next full moon walk will be scheduled on August 20th at 8:30pm. If you plan to go on the next walk, don’t forget to bring your dog! They want to have a nice and relaxing night too.
