House of Soles Community Shoe Drive

House of Soles Community Shoe Drive

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - House of Soles is a local business founded by brothers and twins Lennie and Lonnie Smith. Only 17 years old, the brothers buy and sell shoes as well as sell merchandise with their logo, like t-shirts and sweatpants.

They are now collaborating with Meridian Township and other sponsors to host an event this Friday and Saturday, August 6 and 7, at their location in Okemos, to help give back to the less fortunate.

The event, called "Kicks for the Community", will be from 12:00 pm. to 6:00 pm. both days. The Meridian Township Fire Department and Police Department will be at the event on Saturday with tables set up.

The main focus of the event is a shoe drive, where community members can donate their used or new shoes to local charities. Some of the local charities collaborating with House of Soles are Footprints of Michigan and the Lansing Rescue Mission.

Keaton Woods, a manager at the House of Soles, said everyone needs shoes and this event will help give to those who are less fortunate.

"I know me personally, I got a bunch of shoes that I don't even touch no more," Woods said. "So there ain't no point for me to keep them when someone out there can really use them and appreciate them."

Full sponsors for the event are: The Mattress Source, Meridian Fire, Meridian Police, WLNS and WLAJ53.

The event will be outdoors and held at 1737 W. Grand River Ave., Okemos MI, 48864.
