Capital Area District Libraries Read Woke Challenge's The Community

CAPITAL AREA - Capital Area District Libraries (CADL) are aiming to awaken the community with the new “woke” reading challenge.

The reading challenge began on Tuesday, September 15th and will continue through Saturday, October 31st.

“Challenge social norms, turn pages, watch words bend, and new worlds form and unfold right at your fingertips,” said Mama Sol, a national hip hop and spoken word artist.

The books listed in the challenge will include categories such as Hispanic American Voices, Diverse Abilities and Social Injustice.

“Books that inspire a higher level of respect for another person’s perspective,” said Mama Sol, in a special podcast for the CADL challenge,

There is a total of 10 categories that according to the website will, “reflect a wide variety of cultures, places and experiences.”

Once a participant completes 3 out of 10 categories, they will earn a prize. Additionally, they will be entered into a drawing to win items such as tote bags, T-shirts and books. The more categories a participant completes, the more drawing entries they can receive.
