Body Identified in Williamston Dumpster

WILLIAMSTON-MI - 36-year-old Matthew Charles Haack’s body was found in the compactor compartment of a Waste Management dumpster truck on Friday, June 12. The drivers noticed the body after they arrived on-site in Williamston to empty their containers. Meridian Police responded to the call and arrived on scene around 10:45 that morning.

Originally this was thought to have been an accident, but after speaking with Lieutenant Rick Grillo of the Meridian Police Department today, he was able to provide an updated statement.

“We did watch some of the (security) video where we saw him enter the dumpster of his own free will and the dumpster did get dumped into the compactor,” said Lieutenant Grillo. The actual cause of Mr. Haack’s death has yet to be determined.

The police department was unable to provide information regarding Haack’s mental health at the time, but they are working with the family to hopefully glean more information about Haacks’s tragic death.

A life gone too soon.

The investigation is still on-going and the Meridian Police Department said that Waste Management has been very cooperative and has provided them with everything they’ve needed so far.
