Senior Care Facility Gets Approval From Planning Commission

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Monday, June 8th, the Meridian Township Planning Commission met to discuss plans for the new senior living center on the east end of Hannah Drive. The property will be 268,263 square feet and will take up 10.73 acres of 58 acres of undeveloped land.

The project will be completed in phases. The assisted living and memory care will be built first and the independent living will be built last. This facility will have 262 bedrooms, 8 offices, and 227 parking spaces. They will also need an emergency access road that is required by the Meridian Township fire code.The construction company responsible for this project is Ganter Construction from Oskosh, Wisconsin. Included in the construction will be a diner, salon, and a chapel.

There are 8 wetlands on the property as well and 6 of those wetlands are regulated by the Township. The applicant is allowed to fill the wetlands that are not regulated by the Township. The wetlands on the property are verified by a Township consultant. The applicant is also allowed to bring his own consultant to verify the wetlands on the property.

Commissioners Jerry Richards, Bill Mcconnell, and Holly Corbill expressed their support for this project.

Principal Planner Peter Menser told the Planning Commission that, "A decision on this issue will be made at the next Planning Commission meeting on June 22nd, 2020."

The topic ended with the Planning Commission taking a straw poll to approve next steps of this project, and approved it 7 to 0.
