Lansing 5:01 Puts on CEO Safari Event at Potter Park Zoo

LANSING - The Lansing 5:01 held an event on June 20th, that allowed community members to come out and volunteer at Lansing's own Potter Park Zoo.

The Lansing 5:01 is a non-profit in Lansing that is used to attract and retain talent to the area and their goal is to showcase that Lansing is live after 5:01.

Events & Grants Intern, Sadie Shattuck, put the event together and explains what the purpose behind it is, "So this event is called CEO safari, our main purpose for it is that we wanted to give attendees the chance to connect with other people in the community through working together on a volunteer activity. We thought the zoo has a unique site and Lansing would be a great place to do that which is why we're here and we split into teams to work together and volunteer with local CEO and executives from some of Lansing 5:01's sponsored companies. So we get a chance to meet some CEO'S in the area and talk with them individually and one on one and then after the volunteer activity they'll get a chance to be a part of an interactive festival that includes 20 different non profits from around the area and sign up for future volunteering."

The event allowed those in attendance to volunteer by raking up leaves and help keep potter park squeaky clean. The raking leaves aspect of the evening was a competition split up between multiple groups to see who could clean up the most leaves and have the fullest bags. Whichever group finished first and qualified according to the rules would receive prize packs for them and their families from Potter Park Zoo.

Although a big part of the event was to give back and to volunteer, those in attendance were also treated with a meet and greed with a rhino, free taco bar, music and free t-shirts and tote bags.

There were also over 15 volunteer organizations in order for CEO's to sign up for future volunteer opportunities.

The event was free to the public open to everyone to participate. The Lansing 5:01 holds events often that allow the public to come out, participate and give back to the community.
