INGHAM COUNTY - This past weekend community members had the opportunity to get rid of some old recyclables with the annual Recycle Rama event.
Recycle Rama is Lansing's largest one-day recycling event hosted by the Ingham County Health Department.
The weather was less than cooperative but it didn't stop over 200 volunteers from putting in the hard work and helping the community recycle. Over 1,000 vehicles pulled into the Ingham County Health Department parking and dropped off everything from washers to televisions.
It took a whole team of organizations and people to pull off an event of this magnitude including Michigan State University, The Board of Water and Light and Ingham County.
Environmental specialist for the City of Lansing Lori Welch said Recycle Rama is the perfect opportunity for people to recycle things that they don't have any use for anymore.
"...It's an opportunity for everybody in the region to bring their hard to recycle items, beyond the curbside," Welch said. "Computers, electronics, styrofoam, old medicines, scrap metal, appliances. Things that often times people don't know what to do with, we take here."
Once the items were dropped off by community members, different vendors picked up the recycled materials and disposed of them appropriately, all at no hassle to those who came and dropped off the materials.
Planning and organizing the event goes back to the end of last year to make sure everything would run smoothly. And despite the harsh weather, it really did.
