MSU Spring Game Debuts a Promising Football Team

EAST LANSING - There were fans.

There was frigid cold.

And there was Spring Football.

The MSU Football Team held their annual Green and White Spring Game and it looked as if there was an entirely new football team on the field this season at Spartan Stadium.

Mark Dantonio said that he feels very positive about the upcoming season and is hopeful the team will only get better.

"The ball's on the ground too much sometimes," Dantonio said. "Too many unforced errors, whether it's a practice or a game. I don't think there were too many penalties out there but, just some missed opportunities and things like that. I like our chemistry again, and that's always good to feel."

Before the start of the game the team held a free youth clinic for young athletes that set up a fun and energetic environment for the rest of the day.

Temperatures rocked the fans as windchills picked up and temperatures dropped into the 20's.

But the fans weren't going to let the weather get in the way of supporting their team.

Offensively and defensively the team looked sharp. Brian Lewerke started every game last season but he didn't play too much in the Spring Game. And he didn't have to. The Spartans showed off their versatility with a number of different players taking on different positions throughout the game.

Lewerke said that as the games go on and the newer players get more experience, the guys start to get more comfortable.

"This is Rocky's and Theo's first Spring Game," Lewerke said. "Even for me, this is my first time doing something like this in a while. So, it takes a little to get comfortable. But once you do it starts flowing and getting rhythm."

Michigan State's regular season picks up again this fall with their debut game against Utah State on August 31.
