MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Harris Nature Center sponsored the Fall Color Walk where participants had the oppportuntity to learn about different plants and trees in the Meridian Township forests.

Harris Nature Center assistant naturalist Allison Goodman says the Fall Color Walk is beneficial for those of all ages.

"Our Fall Color Walk is to get people at the Nature Center on a guided walk to get to experience the fall colors and learn about all the different types of trees that we have in our forests and just to get outside and enjoy an afternoon in the woods," Goodman said.

During the walk, Goodman was able to point out different plants, trees, and fungei. One of her favorite fungei is the puff ball mushroom.

"The puff ball mushrooms that we see on the trails are pretty col because when you squeeze them or poke them, the spores release," Goodman said.

Guided walks like these are just another reason to preserve the parks that are in Meridian Township.

"It's good for people in Meridian Township to get out and experience some of the parks that are in their area and in addition, learning about different types of trees and different types of plants."
