MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - New variances were introduced and requested for approval by three Meridian Township residents at last weeks Zoning Board of Appeals meeting. After much time and deliberation two out of the three variance requests were approved for a 450 foot gravel driveway at 4719 Powell Road and a accessory building at 3159 Birch Row Drive.
The new accessory building raised high concern for the Zoning Board considering there is already a 880 square foot accessory building at the property that would need to be demolished.
The new structure will provide more storage for the applicant, but will not meet the 25 square foot restriction implemented by the zoning district.
The distance between the house and accessory building will increase from 26 feet to 36 feet, but will remain the same distance from Pollard Avenue as the current accessory building.
As a result of careful deliberation the new accessory building was finally approved with the restriction that the front yard setback will be no greater than six foot nine inches.
