INGHAM COUNTY - As temperatures rise this summer it's important to be mindful of insect bites and how they can negatively effect our health.
West Nile Virus, Zika fever and Malaria are all diseases that Mosquitoes carry. Tick bites can be serious as well and can cause Lyme disease.
Ingham County's Health Officer Linda Vail has three important tips for residents on how to protect themselves from insect bites this summer:
-Wear more clothing. Despite the heat, wearing more clothing can help decrease the number of insect bites. i.e. long sleeve shirts & closed toe shoes.
-Avoid outdoor activities after dusk or the length you're outside after dusk. Insects especially mosquitoes avoid daylight at all costs and are most prominent during the night time.
-Wear a bug repellent that contains Deet.
