MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township’s Officer Brian Canen has been awarded Officer of the Year. You may remember back in 2016 when Officer Canen received a citation of valor for tackling a man who attempted to attack Assistant Prosecutor Jonathan Roth in a courtroom with a homemade knife.
“I was overcome, this whole incident that happened in the courtroom is just my job to do that. I keep getting more and more attention for it and I would think that my fifteen minutes of was up.”
While Officer Canen is being recognized for his actions in the courtroom, his other qualities did not go unnoticed.
“That’s just one incident of many that makes Brian Officer of the Year," Assistant Chief Ken Plaga said. "Brian is a consistent worker. He always pitches in, he’s got a really calm level head. He helps out with community events and is just one to always be there when you need him.”
