MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Tom's Food Center celebrates Fat Tuesday by honoring the tradition that began in 1982 by hand making packzis.
Bakery manager Keith Anderson said some of the ingredients used to make the packzis are flour, malt yeast, butter and sugar.
"We make them from scratch," Anderson said. "We take great pride in what we do."
Anderson said he enjoys every aspect of making the sweet pastries but, the part he loves most comes after the packaging of the packzis.
"The best thing is when we get the compliments," Anderson said. "I don't know if I have ever had a bad compliment about our packzis."
Lansing resident Travis Nagler said in his house, packzis are present every Fat Tuesday.
"We have a big dinner," Nadler said. "It's usually steak, potatoes, veggies, and then packzis for dessert."
