MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Locals residents attended an election training workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the Meridian Township Hall Room.
Township Clerk Brett Dreyfus and Deputy Clerk Joan Horvath hosted the training workshop to prepare election inspectors for the upcoming presidential primary election March 8.
There are a variety of roles people can work during the election voting process. Roles include being a greeter, running the laptops, handing voters an application, running the tabulator machine and several others.
Dreyfus said it's important to have people involved in the election voting process.
"I believe strongly in engaging the public and having people have an opportunity to be able to serve and help to participate in this very vital aspect of democracy," Dreyfus said.
For election inspector Jerre Cory, she said she's participating in working the election polls to follow in her mom's footsteps.
"This my second time," Cory said. "I'm semi-retired, and interestingly enough my mom did this and she really enjoyed it and it's a way to be really active in politics and I really enjoy politics, and I like it."
Cory's mom was an election inspector for nearly 25 years and said it's something she plans to continue doing for the future years to come.
Each individual role plays a vital part in the election voting process and Cory said she thinks everyone should give it try and shared her advice for working the different roles.
"It's really easy. People are very supportive in teaching you what you need to know and you're not going to be floundering on your own so give it a shot if you want to try it," Cory said.
Dreyfus said he encourages those who aren't registered to be an election inspector to come out and vote on the day of the election.
