MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The holiday season is right around the corner and some residents
are preparing for Black Friday.

Stores will open their doors to thousands of eager customers offering some of their best deals of the year as early as Thanksgiving Thursday.

With horror stories surfacing every year of shoppers getting trampled and or getting into altercations, Meridian Township Police Lieutenant Greg Frenger encourages shoppers to be safe.

"If you're at the front of that line and you're involved in those things, you're really running a risk,” said Frenger. “We want people to certainly go out and shop and enjoy the day but we don't want to see anybody hurt in the process. So just use your head and if you see a situation is going poorly you need to step away before it ends up in somebody being hurt."

Frenger says that in order to avoid the dangers of Black Friday you should shop during daylight hours, avoid wearing expensive jewelry, and pay for purchases with a check or credit card if possible.

The Meridian Township Police Department remind shoppers that taking a few prevention measures can help keep your holiday season joyous.
