OKEMOS - FAN was started in the basement of a church in Fraser, Michigan after a few students from he local high school experienced opiate overdose. Now parents and families in the Ingham County area are too deciding to take a stand against drug use.

The Okemos chapter was started by Phil Pavona after he and his wife lost their son Eric Pavona to drug use in August of 2011. Currently there are 6 chapters in the Michigan area and FAN hopes to gain 7 more by the end of the year.

The group is made up of community leaders such as Sobriety Judge Donald Allen, probation officer, and Meridian Township's own Police Chief David Hall.

Pavona said that FAN is unlike many other 12 steps anti-drug use organizations. Some of FAN's main focuses include changing the face of addiction, spreading messages through personal stories and educate the youth of the dangers of opiate use.

The group meets every 4th Tuesday of the month to discuss tactics to remove drugs from the area, help addicts recover and listen to each others personal stories.
