UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Fawns are being born all over Michigan and the Department of Natural Resources reminds residents to please leave the fawn alone and how they are not abandoned or need any kind of help.

Even the fawns appear to be unattended, the parents are nearby and it is not uncommon for a mother to leave her fawn unattended for up to eight hours.

"Baby animals are frequently born with no odor, and that reminds true for a couple of months. So by actually leaving the baby alone the parent is protecting it." Said Kit Rich, the Harris Nature Center Coordinator.

Please keep in mind that fawns may die if removed from their natural enviroment, and that it is illegal to possess a wild deer in Michigan, and every day a deer spends with humans makes it that much less likely to be able to survive in the wild.
