UPDATE: EAST LANSING - A local salon recently helped raise money for the Meridian Township's Park and Recreation Scholarship Fund.

Douglas J Aveda Institute in East Lansing supported Meridian Township by holding the "Benefit from Beauty" event. Flyers could be printed from the Meridian Township's website and brought to the salon where 20% of their sales would be donated to the Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund.

"So far East Lansing has been our most popular location in order to participate in Benefit from Beauty. We've seen everywhere from local community organizations to student groups from Michigan State University participate and we've already had about seven groups which is a good amount considering everyone gets on week." Said Peter Eichler, the Event and Promotion Coordinator for Douglas J.

The goal of this scholarship is to engage as many youth as possible, regardless of income, in wholesome, physical and social activities that support health, fitness, and good nutrition. Over the last few years, requests for scholarship have increased dramatically due to difficult economic times.
