UPDATE:
LANSING - The Mid-Michigan Environmental Action Council recently picked their ten finalists for the Scrappy Bike Rack Competition.
The competition promotes public art, scrap metal recycling, and walkable, bikeable communities.
Each team entered in the contest had to submit a plan for their own, unique scrappy bike rack. They were judged on safety, practicality, durability, artistic merit, and whether it can be attached to a bikes frame and front wheel. The ten finalists will each be given stipens for two-hundred and fifty dollars.
Julie Powers, executive director of the Mid-Michigan Environmental Action Council, said, "what’s really neat is this is everlasting. These racks are gonna be installed at Potter Park Zoo, they’re going to be installed at impression five, they’re going to be installed in old town, they might even be installed at the city market. So, we’re so excited.”
The program is funded by a grant supported by the Greater Lansing Arts Council, the Lansing Economic Development Corporation, and the City of Lansing.
The finished bike racks are due at noon on Friday June, 22nd and unvailed that night at the festival of the moon in Old Town, Lansing.
