MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Marketplace on the Green pavilion officially opened in October 2020. It serves as the location for the Meridian Township Farmers’ Market, but it also provides community space for craft fairs, Township events, live music and more. One of the amenities it offers is a bike repair station, as well as six bike racks for people to lock their bikes up while visiting the Marketplace.
Tim Potter, manager of the MSU Bikes Service Center, discussed the inspiration behind the bike repair station, “It’s pretty cool that it was in the memory of John Veenstra, who was a former trustee and Township resident for many years.”
Veenstra passed away in 2017 and the Liaison For Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation (LINC) began fundraising for a memorial in early 2018. The memorial includes a park bench, bike racks, a bike repair station, and a plaque dedicated to honor Veenstra’s legacy.
