MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, MI - The Meridian Township Environmental Commission held their virtual meeting on Wednesday, December 2nd to discuss the Green Theme and new neighborhood development plan within the Township.
Amber Clark, the Neighborhood & Economic Development Director of Meridian Township, was present during last night's meeting and gave a presentation to members of the Commission and went over the steps being taken using the Township’s Master Plan goal to preserve and strengthen residential neighborhoods, and maintain a desirable community to ensure that new residential developments are met with high standards of visual attractiveness, health and safety, and environmental sensitivity.
A new concept of creating a 15 minute neighborhood was also presented to the Commission and went into details about the characteristics and what would be accessible to residents in the community needs on a daily basis with local shopping options and open green spaces for community parks and outdoor activities. Clark expressed that the four-corner square in Haslett definitely needs a green space with something that will pull all the neighborhood families out of their homes, “We have really great seasons, and most people enjoy the spring through fall and it would be great to have a space right there to call groups of people together of all diverse housing sizes and backgrounds.”
Clark also wants to create an organized map where the neighborhood homeowners association are organized in a visual way and added, “Meridian Township is so great, it operates like a city, even though it’s a Township. There’s so much going for it and so much information, I feel like having this organized will help the people who already live here know what is going on, but also invite people when they move to our community and already know where everything is.”
