USA - President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden went head-to-head Tuesday night at the first presidential debate for the 2020 election.

The debate was moderated by Chris Wallace from Fox News who said before the debate that his goal was to be as invisible as possible.

The statement may have been taken a bit too seriously as both nominees fell into a pattern of interrupting one another, dishing out personal attacks and frequently calling each other names. Overall, this caused the debate structure itself to collapse.

Public outcry from across the nation caused the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates to announce on Wednesday that there will be a few alterations created on how following debates will go in effort to “maintain order”.

“The Commission on Presidential Debates sponsors televised debates for the benefit of the American electorate. Last night’s debate made clear that additional structure should be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues,” the CPD released on their website. “The CPD will be carefully considering the changes that it will adopt and will announce those measures shortly. The Commission is grateful to Chris Wallace for the professionalism and skill he brought to last night’s debate and intends to ensure that additional tools to maintain order are in place for the remaining debates.”

The next debate for the presidential election will be on Oct. 7 between Vice President Mike Pence and Biden’s running mate Kamala Harris. Biden and Trump will face off again on Oct. 15 which will be monitored by C-SPAN’s Steve Scully.
