LIVINGSTON COUNTY - On October 10, 2010 three Okemos Graduates and a coupld from Fremont, Ohio died in a head on car accident on US-23 coming home from Ann Arbor after a Michigan State Michigan Game.
MSU came together honoring the lives of Sarina Seger, Heather Comstock and Matthew Kolstoe with a "Suit up Day" where all the students dressed up in remembrance, and even painted the well known lovers rock on campus reading "In Loving Memory." A candle light vigil was also held in their names.
To prevent future tragedies like these the Department of Transportation has been adding median cable guardrails to the Livingston/Genesee county line.
Kari Arend, spokesperson for the Department of Transportation explains what exactly a median cable guardrail is and how it makes the roads more safe.
"One of the main things that these new cable guardrails are designed to do is to prevent cross over accidents. It's designed to keep a motorist for example a car in their one lane of travel versus crossing over the freeway and hitting a car in oncoming lanes."
