LANSING - On Wednesday, March 18th Governor Gretchen Whitmer held a press conference to discuss Michigan's response to the Coronavirus. During the press conference, she called Michiganders resilient and said that this is only a chapter of our history.

She explained the actions that she and her team have already taken to limit the spread of Coronavirus. For example, she ordered the closing of all K-12 schools and theaters across Michigan, and restricted bars and restaurants to take out and delivery only.

Whitmer also announced that she signed an executive order to temporarily ban tax foreclosure until May 29th.

She also talked about how Michigan does not have enough tests or resources to process those tests and stated that it would currently take 48 to 72 hours to conduct testing.

The governor stated that we had two cases of COVID - 19 last week, now we have over a hundred cases as of Tuesday. These numbers are only going to increase as more test kits and testing become available.

Whitmer said that all Michiganders have a responsibility to follow the recommendations. She stated, "People are fighting for their lives, one person has died." Her team set up a hotline so Michigan residents can call in and ask questions about COVID-19. 15,000 calls were reported to the hotline on Tuesday.

The Governor also told the media that she is not experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 and that if she did, she would do what she has been advising all Michiganders to do, which includes staying at home and self-quarantining.

Whitmer concluded her address by thanking healthcare workers , grocery store employees, and auto workers.
