Ingham County Animal Shelter Closed For Public Health Concerns

Ingham County Animal Shelter Closed For Public Health Concerns

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - As part of the recent health concerns and precautions taken by Ingham County, the Ingham County Animal Control Shelter will be closed until further notice.

Volunteers and staff are making pet food available for low income households in weather resistant containers outside Lansing's Outreach Center and the Ingham County Animal Shelter.

Animal Care workers will still resume their normal working shifts to look after the remaining dogs and cats in the shelter and are continuing to find foster homes for adoptable pets and provide other efforts to ensure their safety.

Although staff is disappointed with special events and in-shelter adoptions being suspended, taking health precautions is a top priority to ensure the health and well-being of the public and affiliated staff, volunteers and visitors.

Animal control officers will still be on duty. Their hours are Mondays from 7:30am - 3:30pm, Tuesdays thru Fridays from 7:30am to 9pm, and Saturdays from 8am - 3:30pm.

Anyone who has an animal related issue are asked to contact 517.676.8370 ext 1. It is important to understand that officers are taking precautions and might respond to any complaints over the phone prior to arriving.

For those who are looking for a lost pet and think that it is at the shelter, please come to the shelter and call the aforementioned dispatch number. An Animal Control Officer will then escort you through the building to help identify and return your animal.

Please bring proof of ownership such as a license and veterinary records to facilitate in the redemption process. Stray animals and owner surrendered animals will not be accepted during the suspension of services.

For more information or updates, please contact the shelter at 517.676.8370 or visit the ICAC website at www.ac.ingham.org.
