• Video Game Workshop at WKAR

UPDATE: EAST LANSING - WKAR and the College of Communications Arts And Sciences at Michigan State University recently teamed up to host a free video game production seminar called “Imagine, Create and Play Workshop.

Middle school students in the greater Lansing area gathered to understand the process of what goes into creating a video game.

The owners of Adventure Club Games ran the seminar, helping the kids learn how to work as a team to develop a design and rules for a game through paper prototypes. The workshop was held to promote participation in the 2012 Nation STEM Video Game Challenge.

Susi Elkins, Content and Community Engagement Manager at WKAR, said, “for the contest kids can come up with a design and submit a design or they can actually think up the design and then create the game. So, there is a couple different ways to submit and there are a few categories that they can choose from.”

Contestants are asked to develop educational games that focus on math curriculum skills for children ages four to eight. Winners will receive a laptop with game design and educational software, along with 2,000 dollars to the recipient’s school or non-profit organization of their choice.
