MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - After very limited discussion, the Township Board made a final decision on the rezoning of Walnut Hills Golf Club at the May 2, 2017 Board meeting.
Meridian Township citizens and long-time Walnut Hills Golfers, have voiced their opinions against the rezoning of Walnut Hills at numerous meetings.
An unidentified Walnut Hills Golfer said, "yeah, I'm against it. We've been golfing there for years, why would we want to lose that?"
While some wished to remain unnamed on site after the meeting, others wrote to the board.
Community member, Judy Kindel, said, "this would have a very negative impact on the residents living in the immediate area in regard to traffic and safety," in an email to the Township Board regarding the rezoning of Walnut Hills and the potential construction of Summer Park Reality.
Also against the potential rezoning, Jan and Mike Jenkins are worried about another issue. "We are concerned that development will cause major, unresolvable water issues."
After months of deliberation and many concerned citizen opinions, the Board unanimously denied the request to rezone Walnut Hills Golf Club to the Summer Park Reality Project.
As of right now, Walnut Hills Golf Club will stay as is.
