UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - According to Meridian Township Deputy Township Manager/Director of Public Works, Derek N. Perry, a ribbon cutting and official opening of the Okemos Road Boardwalk is expected in early to mid-September.

ORIGINAL STORY: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Earlier this summer construction began on the Okemos Road Boardwalk which will complete the final remaining gap in the pathway system along the east side of Okemos Road between Central Park Drive and the Meridian Service Center.

It will connect the pathway from Jolly Road to Lake Lansing Road. The boardwalk will be constructed of wooden timbers and provide an off-road elevated walkway through the mud lake drain wetland area south of Gaylord C. Smith Court.

Meridian Township's Chief Engineer Younes Ishraidi updates us on the project stating, "The latest of the Okemos Boardwalk project is that the contractor is working on a deck now starting at the north end. We also poured the concrete abutments on both ends and currently, he's also driving the remaining pilings, south of the drain and we hope to finish the testing of the piling tomorrow or Friday and as we stand today, everything is working towards completion date of the first week of August."

Meridian Township received $975,000 in funding from the Ingham County Parks and Trail Millage for the boardwalk and the remaining $325,000 of the $1.3 million-dollar project, will be funded by the Township's local voter approved pathway millage.
