MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN - Darla Jackson, Human Services Specialist for Meridian Township, met with HOMTV to discuss what actions can be taken in preparation for this year's winter, which Darla anticipates to be worse than usual.
Jackson stated, "I would definitely make sure your house is as energy efficient as possible. Another thing to keep in mind is to turn the thermostat down a bit when you're out of the house so that is not using up too much gas or electricity."
Jackson gave examples on how to be energy efficient this winter, such as not using space heaters and dressing in layers in and out of the house. Surprisingly, space heaters are very energy inefficient, so it would be cheaper to turn up your thermostat instead.
Aside from staying warm, Darla also pointed out that if you are unable to pay your energy cost, Consumers Energy does energy audits. "If that is not an option, you can call 211 and they can direct you to somebody who can do that."
