Constitution Week: History of the
Constitution

UPDATE: LANSING - The constitution is a written document that establishes our Republican government. It was drafted during the summer of 1787 in Philadelphia. Many people felt there was a need to establish a new type of government and draft a written Constitution to govern the people of the United States of America replacing the Articles of Confederation.

Many of the signatures seen on the Declaration of Independence are also on the Constitution.

The document they created was a Republican form of government with elected representatives chosen to elect a President who is and was responsible for the people as a whole.

They built a strong Federal Government and yet not all powerful Federal Government giving recognition to the Local and State Governments. It remains an important document that’s in fact simple and yet complex and adaptable.
