MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - OKEMOS - The Meridian Senior Center held a small ceremony for a new fitness room with up to date equipment on Friday, January 10th.
The event began at 11:30 am and seniors in the community came to see the new exercise room and equipment.
Senior Center Coordinator Cherie Wisdom spoke in front of everyone in attendance thanking them and gave a special thank you to the Haslett-Okemos Rotary Club for their grants and donations for making it possible. The equipment was from American Home Fitness in Meridian Township.
Dan Wilkinson from the Haslett-Okemos Rotary Club was super excited to work with the senior center and spoke a few words, as well the Parks and Recreation Director LuAnn Maisner and Meridian Township Treasurer Phil Deschaine before officially opening the room.
HOMTV spoke with Wisdom and says there were already fitness classes at the Senior Center, and the Rotary Club donating $6,000 to provide the new fitness equipment was a added bonus to what were already providing to our older adults in our community, to keep them healthy, fit and strong.
Wisdom also added that she feels the new equipment also benefits the new sidewalk and stating, "group fitness isn't for everyone and was one of the reasons why she wanted to get this fitness center and the other reason we wanted the path put in. Not everyone likes group fitness and likes to workout on their own. This is a good alternative to those group fitness classes. With the variety of exercise classes we have, you have multiple choices on how to be fit for your whole body."
