Okemos Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Grand Ledge Comets

OKEMOS - Friday December 7th the Okemos High School Varsity boys faced off against cross town rival Grand Ledge.

Riveting game for the boys with an aggressive offense and defense that lead to many calls in their favor and turnovers. A lot of the calls were fairly controversial.

Key players in this game included #4 Senior Fabian Leone who at the halfway point of the 3rd quarter drove the ball thru the lane for 2 points, gaining him the foul call and bringing their lead up against the comets 30-21.

The Okemos Varsity Boys team is highly seasoned with 6 seniors leading the charge. Of those seniors another key player was #24 Evan Thomas who knows how to move the ball and increase production on offense,

put up many perimeter shots until the Comet defense forced him inside, or lead him to get assists to other players.

Highlight of the game was that of Junior #23 Austin Gibson really taking the momentum of the 4th quarter into his own hands by starting up a 3 point showdown.

He dropped a beauty from the top of the key wide open with the passing assist from #24 Evan Thomas.

Gibson worked to assist his other players as well as create many opportunities to get the ball on the defensive side of the ball.

Other key players that wrap up the group are #21 Junior Noah Pruitt, #22 Mason Kaczmarek, and as previously mentioned, Senior #4 Fabian Leone.

Head Coach Jeff Wonch does a great job of keeping his players level headed and fired up while they battled for each point and turnover.

Final score of the game was Okemos 61-Grand Ledge Comets 44. The Okemos Boys Varsity Basketball team is sitting undefeated with an overall 4-0 record.

Their next game will be December 14th at home going up against the Holt Rams, tipoff at 6pm.
