Okemos Hosts "Best of the Best" Football Camp

Okemos Hosts

OKEMOS - Students from all over Michigan attended a football camp in Okemos for some additional training and recognition to become one of the best.

Okemos High School hosted the fourth annual Best of the Best Football Camp to give freshmen and seniors an early start on the season.

Students from all over the state of Michigan came on to the field Wednesday night, along with come college coaches from Division II schools.

"They're getting some great experience out here today. They're meeting kids from other schools, they're working on position specific drills and they hear from great speakers like Ken Mannie from Michigan State on leadership and life lessons and making good choices," Okemos Head Varsity Coach Mike Krumm said.

Okemos Athletic Director has hosted this event each year and establishes a goal to present an experienced speaker to the program.

The camp charged each player $25 as they walked through the gates surrounding the field, to obtain a jersey and a lifetime experience.

"It's not just about athletics, it's what it teaches these, these young men," East Lansing football parent Joseph Iosefa said.

Iosefa said his son is an upcoming senior at East Lansing High School and he brought his son with hopes to gain additional physical skill, as well as opportunities.

"It's almost like building a resume for him and he's hoping to get that exposure from a physical attribute stand point and skill set. What they learn here, both physically and mentally transitions into the work force," Iosefa said.

Large groups were distributed throughout the field and each student-athlete was able to perform in drills with their parents and potential college recruiter, watching, on the sideline.

"Well really we want to give kids in mid-Michigan and really the state of Michigan an opportunity to be recognized by college coaches. The coaches come in to observe the drills, to watch these kids, interact with them and i think it really gives them that chance to have that individual one on reaction, in a central location to bring them all together," Krumm said.
