Park Commission Discussess Upcoming Events for April

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - At the Tuesday, April 10th Park Commission meeting, the commission discussed many events happening in Meridian Township for April.

On April 28, around 300 trees will be planted in celebration of Arbor Day. The event will take place at 9 am at Towar Woods Land Preserve. The Park Commission is looking for volunteers and no prior planting experience is needed. There will be a tree planting demonstration presented at the beginning of the event. All volunteers must sign up by Friday, April 27, and to sign up contact Kelsey Dillon.

Also many April family fun events were mentioned. Events include: on Sunday, April 15, Explore Nature Open House at Harris Nature Center from noon to 4pm. As well, on Saturday, April 21, Song Bird Nest Box Workshop at Harris Nature Center starting at 2 pm. There will be nest boxes for the visitors to take home; $12 for a robin shelf or $20 for a bluebird/song bird nest box.

The commission also discussed how new trail signs have been installed in the parks to make them more user friendly to the general public.

LuAnn Maisner, Meridian Township Director of Parks and Recreation said, "We have had signs so far installed at Barttin Woods Park, Hatrick Park, North Meridian Road, Forest Hills, and of course last fall, Ted Black Woods Park, was our first one."

Maisner said there are trails head signs and directional signs throughout the trail systems.

The next Park Commission meeting will be Tuesday, May 8 at 7pm.
