MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Fire Department has been continuing to install free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

All funded by the recent $70,000 grant the fire department was awarded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Many residents have made requests for these alarms.

“I’ll have 200 installs next week. And we’ve got a list that’s probably still over 250 to get to. The response has been awesome,” said Meridian Township Fire Inspector, Tavis Millerov.

With a goal of 2,162, so far they’ve installed 214 smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

With so many requests, the fire department is expanding its schedule of installs.

“Some people we just can’t get to, you know, between the hours of eight and five during the week. Uh it’s just not possible so we are starting to make a weekend list and that way the station crews can work on that over time over the weekends when they have availability for it. But eventually we’ll get to everybody,” said Millerov.

This program will go until August 31, 2019 or until the Township is out of alarms.

If your alarm does not have a date on it, that means it was installed before 2005, meaning it’s outdated.
