Greater Lansing Food Bank Prepares for Holiday Season

LANSING, MI - With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up, many are reminded of the things they are thankful for, including food.

Unfortunately 1 in 7 people in the Mid-Michigan area are at risk for food insecurity. The Greater Lansing Food Bank has been working every day since 1981 to help those in the community who struggle to pay for food.

As the temperature gets colder and the holiday season approaches, more donations are needed to help those who can’t make ends meet with heating their homes and feeding their families.

"We've kicked off our holiday campaign which is, Hunger is Here, so are we. And we couldn't be there for our friends and neighbors who need food without great donations from community partners, local businesses, local doctors offices, whoever it might be. Getting a lot of great donations in over the next couple of weeks," said Media Coordinator for the Greater Lansing Food Bank, Justin Rumenapp.

Rumenapp said they are looking for goods that are bagged, boxed, plastic bottles or anything that is shelf stable for food donations. You can help with donations by making a direct drop-off or by holding a food drive.

With over 140 partner agencies, the Greater Lansing Food Bank serves 7 counties including: Clinton, Clare, Eaton, Gratiot, Ingham, Isabella and Shiawassee.

Last year 6,644,284 meals were delivered to those in need.

To make a direct donation drop-off, you can take your food items to the Mint Road location in Lansing during their regular business hours.
