Conflict with the Future of Walnut Hills

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - It was foreclosed, bought and now the center of a lawsuit. 

The former Walnut Hills Golf course is owned by Summer Park Realty but its future has lead to some conflict with Meridian Township. 

Summer Park Realty is suing Meridian Township after being denied a request to redevelop Walnut Hills in the way they envisioned, now leaving them with an unused empty golf course.

"So really what this case is about is how intensely that property be used in the future," said William Fahey, Meridian Township attorney.

Summer Park Realty looks to build homes on the old golf course property.

"But the question is how dense can those homes be," said Fahey.

Meridian Township is seeking to limit the size and number of those homes, keeping in mind of the already existing residents in that area.

Summer Park Realty wants to build around 400 homes while Meridian Township wants around 280 homes.

For Meridian Township resident, Neil Bowlby, he has some concerns about the plan Summer Park Realty looks to pursue.

“A development of that size is not appropriate for a couple of reasons. The main ones being the amount of traffic that it would generate and the limited access in and out,” said Bowlby

The attorney for Summer Park Realty was out of the country and not available for comment.
