The Michigan State Police Fundraise for Hurricane Victims

LANSING - It was a day filled with treats, games, music and so much more.

"It's a family, friend and all kind of fun event. Kids are really loving it," said Vikas Gupta, a local who attended the event.

This fun event was one that aided the victims of the recent hurricanes in the South.

The Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security division put together this event, along with some sponsors, and donated all proceeds to the American Red Cross.

"A lot of people in Michigan, our division, state police who wants to help but there's only so many things you can do. To move food or people down there, it might not be so economical as to the neighboring states helping out. That's generally how that works. So we're able to say 'hey, you know what, let's try and have a fundraiser," said Gabriel Covey, First Lt. with the Michigan State Police.

People of all ages came out to the Hope Sports Complex in Lansing to have some fun, while raising money too. The event costs just 10 dollars for parking and all that money was donated.

Many families took part in trick or treating and jumping in the bounce houses, but also came to learn a little bit too.

"For our kids, we were able to say like, when it came to the ambulance, he was able to say to them, 'this is what we do when there's a hurricane or there's a disaster' and we could tell our kids about it," said Lindsey Woodrich who came to the event with her family.

The event ran all day from noon until 5 at night.
