OKEMOS - The community came out for a birthday celebration this past weekend. It wasn't your ordinary birthday party.

Douglas J Salon and Spa celebrated 50 years with a block party in Downtown Okemos. The event featured a DJ who played a variety of music from different decades. Models strolled through the party in decade themed ensembles and hairstyles showcasing the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and the early 2000s.

The celebration also featured free how-to-demonstrations for guests including getting their hair done in different decade styles, Henna tattoos and raffle gifts of hair care products, gift cards and more.

Owner of Douglas J, Scott Weaver, was in attendance to the celebration and stated that he was happy to partner with Meridian Township on their 175th celebration. Douglas J has supported Township celebrations in the past such as the Celebrate Downtown Okemos Event and fundraisers for Meridian Cares.

Douglas J Salon and Spa has become a community staple since opening its doors in 1984. Their business spans throughout Michigan, Illinois and Tennessee.
