Okemos Public Schools New Superintendent Looking To Move District To Next Level

OKEMOS - Going into her 22nd year working in education, Alena Zachery-Ross is the new Superintendent of Okemos Public Schools. Previously, Zachery-Ross spent the last 5 year's as Superintendent of Schools for the Muskegon Heights Public School Academy.

When asked why Okemos Public Schools appealed to her Zachery-Ross explained, "well Okemos has a legacy of being a high preforming school district, with people who love where they work. That's what set's this district apart; is the fantastic staff, the wonderful school board who are supportive of the staff, and a community that values education."

Zachery-Ross went on to explain she is looking forward to learning about what makes up the school district and why people are so passionate about it, and what she can do to support that and lead the district to the next level.

According to U.S. News & World Report, Okemos High School is number 10 in Michigan Rankings, but Superintendent Zachery-Ross said she recognizes they still need to strive for excellence. "Everyone knows that the district is high preforming, yet everyone is not satisfied with being just great, they want to be the greatest and so that's what we're working to do," said Zachery-Ross.

So far, Zachery-Ross said the community has been more than welcoming and she excited to get to know the public even further. For those that have suggestions and want to give input, Zachery-Ross encourages the community to join her for World Cafe Events which she'll host at each school starting in September.
